Lance Jones
Lance was the
founder and front man for Mickle-a-do.
He has been deeply involved in the Atlanta Celtic community
for this entire century. His family is of Scottish, Irish
and Welsh origin and is a proud member of Clans Cameron,
Davidson, MacFarlane and Bubba. Lance believes, as a Scotsman,
that you should keep the Sabbath – AND
everything else you can get your hands on! Lance learned
to play all of the instruments without lessons. That is
PLAINLY obvious when he plays
them. A long time member of PETA (People Eating Tasty
Animals), Lance has an uncontrollable fear of vegetables
and Chihuahuas.
Instruments: Vocals, Guitar, Bouzouki,
Mandolin, Whistles and Bodhr’an

Mary Carey
Mary plays traditional Irish fiddle. In addition to Póg,
she plays with Atlanta's Father O'Reilly Ceili Band.
Originally a classical cellist, she found that the fiddle
was much lighter and more fun to play. Unfortunately, Mary
had to give up kayaking as the cello doubled as her kayak.
Mary has been a student of Moira Nelligan's for several
years and also attends the annual Swannanoa Gathering where she
studied with Irish fiddle greats such as
Liz Knowles of Riverdance. In her
limited free time she is also an archery instructor and
was at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, South Korea. Rumor
has it that she was working for the CIA at the time and
made clandestine forays into North Korea with the noted
British agent, Austin Powers. Mary serves on the board of
the Irish Arts Foundation of Atlanta, organizer of the
Fall Irish Festival, Atlanta Irish Music Competition, and
other Irish music events.
Instruments:
Fiddle

Owen Devine
Owen has been playing the drums since
he was 11, professionally since the tender age of 16.
Over the years he has played in Scottish pipes and drums,
rock, jazz and even polka bands. Owen picked up a Bodhr’an
about 10 years ago and was hooked on the passion and joy
of Celtic music. In addition to Póg!,
Owen plays with the Athens Celtic band
Banish Misfortune. Owen is delighted
to get the chance to play with fine musicians like Lance,
Seamus and Mary.

James Dunning
A native of Planet Earth, Séamus
(the Mad Piper) was raised on brass instruments, but in
his twenties, heeded the clarion call of the pipes beckoning
towards expression of his atavistic dominant gene
(What?). Our
man has been known to play the piob mhor warpipes, but
specializes in Irish uilleann pipes and whistles, absorbing
the craft in Germany and in Éire sitting humbly
at the feet of renowned piper Finbar Furey. He founded
the bands Séamus & Dave,
Blackwater, and Doctor Paddy
for Irish and international music in Athens, GA during
the 1980’s, and was Irish when Irish wasn’t
cool.
Instruments: Uilleann pipes, tin whistles,
recorders, vocals and eclectic strings
